Mike Epstein

The FARM community was sad to learn that Mike Epstein, husband/partner/best friend to Carol Obertubessing (Woodstock Folk Festival, Woodstock, IL) died on January 6, 2011 after a three-week battle with a rare, very aggressive form of cancer. Carol & Mike were a big part of the Chicago area folk music community and he will be greatly missed. Carol was kind enough to share her memories of 40 years with Mike. An excerpt follows:

“I believe that people can live on in our lives and we can live our lives in a way that honors their memory.  Please remember Mike – his brilliance, his gentle caring nature, his belief in doing what is right even when that is hard, his way of going out of his way to help people, and his dedication to family, work, and community.  If you hear some of our favorite songs, “As Time Goes By,” “If We Only Have Love,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “Somewhere,” songs from “Gigi,” “La Vie En Rose,” “Teach Your Children,” or the songs of Phil Ochs, Judi Collins, Joan Baez, Peter, Paul & Mary, Pete Seeger, Tom Paxton, Bill Staines, Billy Novick and Guy Van Duser, Ella Fitzgerald, Eric Bogle, and Jimmy Cliff, or the music of Bach, Beethoven, and Vivaldi, please think of Mike.  Remember your favorite times with him and smile when those memories come to mind.”

Our sincere condolences to Carol and her family.
